This photograph was taken from the Kohestan road, at a distance of about 1 km (1100 yards) NNE of the Bemaru hills. For security reasons the trees along the road were cut down. As mentioned in the diaries of participating officers, this road was also used as a racing course for horses at that time (with trees as hurdles). On top of the right part of the panorama is Fort Onslow; in the centre of the left part of the panorama is the Blockhouse No. 10 (Plan No. 20). In between the terraced wall can be seen.

This photograph was taken from the Kohestan road, just outside Bemaru village. On top of the hill is Fort Onslow; below is the Blockhouse No. 10 (Plan No. 20). In between the terraced wall can be seen. On top of the outside wall of the village a parapet with loopholes was added. In the foreground are the trunks of the trees which were cut along the road. The branches were used for a line of abatis around the village.
