Dies ist eine Vergrösserung des unteren Teils der Aufnahme ER 232-1 a. Die schmalen und verwinkelten Gassen der Altstadt schliessen direkt an den Basar an. Es gibt weder Kanalisation, noch fliessendes Wasser, oder Elektrizität. Geheizt wird mit Holzkohle. ♦♦♦ This is an enlargement of the lower part of ER 232-1 a. The narrow alleys in the old city are connected with the bazaars. There is neither canalisation nor running water or electricity; the rooms are heated by charcoal fires.

Blick auf die Ecke eines zweigeschossigen Gebäudes. Rechts der Haupteingang mit reich geschnitztem Holzwerk, darüber eine Reihe ‚russischer‘ Fenster und ein Erker. Breiter Dachvorsprung mit tropfenförmigen Verzierungen. In Kabul treten häufig starke Erdbeben auf. Der gute Zustand dieses älteren Gebäudes zeigt, dass sich die Kombination von dicken Lehm-Mauern im Erdgeschoss und Fachwerkbau im Obergeschoss bewährt hat. ♦♦♦ A two-storey building in the old city of Kabul. The main entrance is the only outside opening in the walls of the ground floor. The first floor shows ‘Russian’ and oriel windows. A broad roof overhang is adorned with drop-shaped elements. Many earthquakes rock Kabul. The good condition of this elderly building proofs the conformity of the traditional combination of thick mud walls for the ground floor and a timber frame construction for upper floors.

Innenhof eines zweigeschossigen Serails zur Lagerung von Handelswaren. Im Hof stehen Männer, Kinder und ein beladener Esel. Es könnte sich um den damaligen Zollhof handeln. ♦♦♦ Inner courtyard of a caravanserai, used for the storage of merchandise. Some men, children and a loaded donkey are standing in the patio. This could be the then Kabul custom house.
