ELD 134 — Sketch of Ak Tepe by William Simpson

A sketch of the junction of Murghab and Kushk Rivers. This sketch is not by ELD, but was taken by William Simpson and published in two different versions as engravings in the ILN 1885/1, on p. 251 and on p. 403. It is missing in the Simpson album, which is kept at Hatfield House. But there are several pencil sketches by ELD, given in exchange to William Simpson. As William Simpson had sent all his sketches to the editor of the ILN and collected the originals only after his return to London, the existence of his sketch among those by ELD shows that they remained in contact after the ABC.
Unlike the sketches ELD 001-107 this sketch was not photo-lithographed.
