ER 233 — Hausbau und Erdbeben

Blick auf die Ecke eines zweigeschossigen Gebäudes. Rechts der Haupteingang mit reich geschnitztem Holzwerk, darüber eine Reihe ‚russischer‘ Fenster und ein Erker. Breiter Dachvorsprung mit tropfenförmigen Verzierungen. In Kabul treten häufig starke Erdbeben auf. Der gute Zustand dieses älteren Gebäudes zeigt, dass sich die Kombination von dicken Lehm-Mauern im Erdgeschoss und Fachwerkbau im Obergeschoss bewährt hat.

A two-storey building in the old city of Kabul. The main entrance is the only outside opening in the walls of the ground floor. The first floor shows ‘Russian’ and oriel windows. A broad roof overhang is adorned with drop-shaped elements. Many earthquakes rock Kabul. The good condition of this elderly building proofs the conformity of the traditional combination of thick mud walls for the ground floor and a timber frame construction for upper floors.
