Salam khana (Audienz-Halle) und Garten in der arg von Kandahar. Blick von Süden in einen rechteckigen Hof, der rechts und links von Mauern, hinten von einem einstöckigen Gebäude begrenzt ist. Am linken Bildrand sitzen fünf Männer auf einer Estrade mit Sonnensegel. Die Fenster des Gebäudes sind mit aufrollbaren Schilfmatten gegen Sonneneinfall geschützt. Vor der Estrade teilt ein rechteckiges Blumentopf-Beet mit zwei Laternen den Garten symmetrisch; bei der rechten Laterne arbeiten drei Gärtner. In der vorderen Hälfte liegt ein rundes Bassin mit einer Fontäne, umgeben von einem Rondell mit Gartenwegen, gusseisernen Parkbänken, Reihen von Blumentöpfen und Blumen-Rabatten. In der hinteren Hälfte des Gartens liegt ein gleiches Rondell. Anstelle des Bassins erhebt sich ein rundes Podium (takht/sofa), auf dem eine Gruppe von europäisch gekleideten Männern sitzt. In der rechten hinteren Ecke des Hofes stehen Männer in militärischer Formation. Hinter dem weissen Gebäude sind die Mauern der Zitadelle mit einem Turm oder grossem Windfgang (badgir) sichtbar.

Salam khana (audience hall) and garden in the arg (citadel) of Kandahar. View from the south of a rectangular courtyard, bounded on the left and right by walls, and behind by a one-storey building. Its windows are protected against the sun with reed mats that roll up. On the left side of the picture five men are sitting on a dais with awning. In front of the dais a long rectangular bed of flowerpots with a lantern at either end divides the garden symmetrically. Near the right lantern three gardeners are at work. In the foreground there is a round water basin with a fountain, surrounded by a circular flowerbed with garden paths, cast-iron park benches and numerous flower pots. Behind the long rectangular flowerbed is a similar circular flowerbed with a raised platform or podium (takht/sofa), on which a group of men in mostly dark European clothing is sitting. In the right rear corner of the courtyard stand some men in military formation. Behind the white building the walls of the citadel with a tower or a large wind catcher (badgir) are visible.
