RE 032 — Jalalabad: Group of Afghans

Thirteen Afghans in traditional dress, all of them armed with long rifles (jezail), crouching in front of a pile of straw or shrubs. Such shrubs are normaly used in Afghanistan to heat the tandoor, to bake fresh bread. Another use of such shrubs is to pile them in front of an open window and to water them to cool the room. The arrangement of this group picture shows clearely the instruction given by John Burke.
