- L. Adamec (1980): Kandahar and south-central Afghanistan, S. 114: “Chehel Zina. A single vaulted chamber cut out of the solid rock on the hill behind old Kandahar, 3 miles from Kandahar, towards the west. From inscriptions on the walls, which are of considerable interest and have been translated by Dr. Brereton, it appears that the work was commenced by the emperor Babar, A.H. 928. ‘Chehel Zina’ means forty steps, but there are now 42 steps up to the chamber.
