Brief description: Heavy oil lamp on long cylindrical stand, around bowl crudely incised stylised wheat, lotus leaves and raised curled snake at one end, row of bosses around stand.

Condition: Worn, heavy oil patina

Provenance: Bought in Afghan bazaar in early 1970s.

Brief description: Square pillar oil lamp, hollowed out well at top and bottom with hole pierced through length of lamp; on four sides crudely incised scrolled leaf motifs, at four top corners human face with flat cap blending into top surface of lamp.

Brief description: Tent hanging with pointed lower end, embroidered overall in yellow, white, blue, fuchsia, burgundy, pale green and dark brown, two parallel vertical rows of squares within squares and various geometric motifs. Long fringe of dark green twisted wool on all sides. Lined in silk ikat. Lakai Uzbek.

Brief description: Long soft man’s belt with pointed ends, loop at one end, small tuft at other. Embroidered in white, dark brown, orange, rust, purple and black, key motif down center, border of diamond-shapes, the whole edged in dark brown. Unlined. Uzbek.

Brief description: V-shaped bedding cover in two bands sewn together at right angles, embroidered in green, burgundy, purple, yellow, orange, white, blue, pink, and dark brown; in overall stepped diamond motif, lower edge hung with long multi-colored fringe of twisted thread with single white (a few black) glass bead at end. Lined in red cotton. Uzbek.

Brief description: Long narrow single puttee with one pointed end, embroidered in purple, orange, red, green, white, black and burgundy. Overall repetitive pattern of stylized horns, wheel and circular motifs on green silk background fabric. Edged in narrow strip of black, yellow and purple. Unlined.

Brief description: Long narrow single puttee with one pointed end, embroidered in yellow, white, green, black, purple, red and dark pink on purple background fabric. One half, band of floral and leaf motifs down center, bordered with band of circles; other half, spaced leaf motifs down center and at border, the whole edged in loose green stitching. Unlined. Hazara.
